Delivering for Scullin
What Andrew is delivering
Andrew spends as much of his time as possible talking and listening to with community organisations, schools, health services and local constituents. Ensuring he is able to be a strong voice for the northern suburbs.
Since first elected in 2013, Andrew has a strong record or delivering for the northern suburbs. See below what Andrew has delivered for the people of Scullin.
Public Schools Upgrade Fund
The Albanese Labor Government’s School Upgrade Fund will deliver around $48 million in vital infrastructure projects for Victorian public schools.
Upgrading infrastructure projects for our Victorian public schools is necessary to give children the best education and opportunities in life.
I am pleased to announce three schools right here in Scullin will benefit from funding:
Norris Bank Primary School receiving $963,166 for playground equipment, new surface and shade sails.
Findon Primary School receiving $494, 693 for refurbishment of student toilets.
Merriang Special Developmental School receiving $965,385 to upgrade existing playground to support inclusivity and sensory needs.
Peter Hopper Lake
Ensuring that residents can enjoy a place to go for walks is important to strengthen community wellbeing. This is something that has also been raised with me from local residents surrounding Peter Hopper Lake, who were concerned by the poor wellbeing of local wildlife and water conditions.
I am pleased that the Albanese Government has listened and is delivering $2 million to help restore the lake, making it once again a space for families and birdwatchers.
This is in partnership with the City of Whittlesea and the state Government. To find out here where the project is up to.
Phasing out of Live sheep exports
Since I was first elected in 2013, animal welfare issues related to live sheep export has been something I have campaigned for consistently. With the activism from local constituents and the broader movement, I am proud that the Albanese Government is legislating to have live sheep export phased out by 2028.
By phasing out live sheep export we are ensuring that our treatment of animals reflect the values and morals of the Australian community.
Community Language School grants
As the member for an electorate with a strong multicultural community, I am proud of the Community Language Schools grants we are delivering to strengthen social inclusion. This is an important measure to support young Australians to acquire a second language, grow connections with the broader community and enable participation in a broader range of jobs.
This will directly benefit Scullin with 9 Community Language Schools being successful with this grant.
Volunteer Grants
Volunteers are essential for strengthening community and delivering valuable services. These grants will better support our local community groups through encouraging more volunteering activities.
I am pleased to announce 53 local organisations were successful in this round of volunteer grants.
