The Abbott Government has cruelly cut a fully-budgeted and approved grant awarded to the City of Whittlesea in Scullin.
Andrew Giles MP, Federal Member for Scullin, said the Abbott Government’s decision to cut the Building Multicultural Communities Program was a disgrace and would have an adverse impact on the community.
Many community organisations received letters yesterday stating the Abbott Government has withdrawn funding for their previously successful grants.
“The project that has been cut in our local community is $150,000 for the Whittlesea City Council for renovations to the Epping Memorial Hall kitchen,” Mr Giles said.
“The Epping Memorial Hall is a venue used by many community groups throughout the City of Whittlesea.”
“Tony Abbott has cruelly cut the grant to the City of Whittlesea, an organisation that provides support for the many community groups and clubs in our area.”
“This decision is a calculated move by the Abbott Government which betrays community groups around the country as we near Christmas.”
“It is symptomatic of a government that knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing.”
