ANOTHER BROKEN PROMISE FROM THIS MORRISON GOVERNMENT
It’s been reported today that the Morrison Government may not stump up the $200 million it committed to a critical water infrastructure project in Townsville prior to the election.
Labor committed to fully fund Stage 2 of the Haughton Pipeline duplication project in 2018 - no strings attached.
From the start the Liberal Government has been sneaky – they attempted to match Labor’s commitment but pulled up short, instead committing only $5 million to undertake a business case for the project. Making the remaining funds contingent on the business case.
Now time is running out for the project to commence efficiently and the federal government are using sneaky “delay tactics” to possibly avoid coughing up the full funding of $200 million.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison needs to tell the people of Townsville why his government is delaying building this critical infrastructure project and failing to achieve a top-priority for the Townsville City Deal.
According to the local council there are just three working days until a decision must be made to purchase $55 million worth of pumps and infrastructure necessary for stage one of the project.
Is Scott Morrison and Philip Thompson MP walking away from another commitment?
Townsvillians have a right to know whether the Government will keep its commitment or if this critical water project was just another empty promise from this Morrison government.
