Government dodges question on needs-based funding

June 05, 2017

Today in the Federation Chamber, the Minister representing the Minister for Education, Greg Hunt, was unable to give a straight answer on needs-based funding.

He was asked how the flat indexation rate for schools funding, proposed in the budget, would bring every school up to the Schooling Resource Standard.

The Minister either didn’t know, or refused to answer, so I’ll answer it for him: a flat indexation rate can’t and won’t bring schools up to the Schooling Resource Standard.

The Turnbull Government has no plan to deliver the needs-based funds vital to ensuring that every child has every chance to fulfil their potential.

Only Labor has a plan to support every student in every school, no matter their parent’s bank balance or where they live.
