LABOR COMMITS $1.6 MILLION TO VIETNAMESE CULTURAL CENTRE
An Albanese Labor Government will commit $1.6 million towards the building costs of the
Vietnamese Cultural Centre in Girrawheen.
Vietnamese Community in Australia WA Chapter has existed for more than four decades, but
has been without a permanent home.
The Vietnamese Cultural Centre will provide a dedicated hub for community activities and serve
as a meeting place for various local Vietnamese community associations and clubs.
Federal Labor’s announcement follows the McGowan Labor Government announcing in
October 2020 that it will transfer the land needed for the development of the new dedicated
Vietnamese Cultural Centre.
Only an Albanese Labor Government will deliver a better future for WA.
Comments attributed to Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs Andrew Giles:
“I’m delighted to be in Girrawheen today to announce the establishment of a Vietnamese
Cultural Centre in WA.
Labor understands that Vietnamese Australians play such a vital role in making Australia the
most successful multicultural society in the world. We’ve been listening to the groups across
our society to ensure that we continue to invest in the people and the groups that make our
community so vibrant.
“This announcement is one way that we can deliver a better future for culturally and linguistically
diverse Australians in Girrawheen.
Comments attributed to Member for Cowan Dr Anne Aly:
"I’m thrilled to support the work of the Vietnamese Community in Australia WA Chapter and to
support their work to provide the Vietnamese community with a dedicated centre that it
deserves.
"Perth’s northern suburbs have one of the most culturally diverse populations in Australia and
we are a more vibrant community because of that diversity.”
Comments attributed to Labor candidate for Pearce Tracey Roberts:
“It’s a pleasure to commit this support to the Vietnamese Community, who I have worked with for
over 10 years.
“I look forward to being part of many special occasions here, celebrating the community’s
culture, vibrancy and participation.”
