Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development Anthony Albanese MP, Andrew Giles MP and Rob Mitchell MP today announced that a Shorten Labor Government will provide $500,000 towards a feasibility study for Wollert rail.

This election will be a choice between a united Shorten Labor Government, which will build the transport infrastructure we need, or more of the Liberals’ cuts and chaos. We need real change, because more of the same isn’t good enough.

The communities of Epping North and Wollert are experiencing rapid growth and do not have ready access to rail. This was recognised in Infrastructure Victoria’s 30 Year Infrastructure Strategy to address infrastructure demands in areas with high population growth, which identified such a feasibility study as a priority.

“I have been working closely with community members and the City of Whittlesea to see the northern suburbs get a fair deal when it comes to infrastructure. I am proud that a Shorten Labor Government has committed $500,000 so a feasibility study can be undertaken into rail to Wollert. Better public transport options for Epping North and Wollert is a major priority for me,” Mr Giles said.

Under the Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison Government, Victoria has been massively short-changed when it comes to infrastructure.

“Even now, when the Liberals rally about busting congestion, they seem to believe that congestion only matters in Liberal seats. This is an insult to people in the City of Whittlesea.”

Only a Shorten Labor Government, with Anthony Albanese as Minister for Infrastructure, has a plan for our cities and in particular fast-growing suburbs.

Federal Labor is committed to working with the Andrews Government and the City of Whittlesea to secure the roads and public transport services our communities deserve.

End the chaos. Vote for change. Vote for Labor.
